Internet Connection at Last

Yesterday February 25 I had internet connection installed at home. This fun for me since I built all my sites in the internet cafe spending a lot of money already. I have always wanted to have internet at home for the last 12 years but a lot of factors could not make it possible. I was relieved and at the same time excited about it.

I’ll just see the service of my internet provider which I will post after a few months of subscription.

Expect a lot of posting to occur starting today!

Supercharged Productivity - Part II

This is Part II of Supercharged Productivity. The first part showed a list of common sense productivity guidelines that will help us get that first step.

Today we shall be discussing the things we can do in a business environment to charge up our productivity. All these minor things make the difference of going home early or staying late making up for unproductive hours during the day.

On our desk :

Shoot and shoot—I am fun of playing basketball. Every time I feel a non-confidential document will not be needed anymore I crumple and shoot them straight to the trash can.

Archive Files—I make sure I archive the files that would prove useful in the future. Most often I scan and keep them accessible for easy searching.

Supercharged Productivity - Part I

Sir yes sir. Sir no sir. Sir permission to speak sir.

I remembered that was how we answered our officers back in high school when I was a model cadet. No frills. No beating around the bush. My school Don Bosco Makati is still one of the best cadet competing units in the country. We won in four major cup competitions during my senior year despite having both academic and technical subjects in school.

We had to increase our productivity in every minute we spend to accomplish our tasks and leave nothing hanging.

Cut the chase. Straight to the point. If you want to produce results in lesser amount of time then get to business right away.

Killer Instincts

It takes a savage to finish off an opponent. It takes a whole new level of personality to put in that final knife thrust through his heart to silence him forever.

This is similar in our pursuit to overcome obstacles we encounter in life. There are a lot of struggles and most often than not we are able to win halfway through the battle. If we are strong enough we might be able to win three fourths through.

What happens?

From the start of the battle we are able to put in a great amount of energy and enthusiasm into it. We are full of hope and aspiration that we will prevail. But later on, as the times go by and the battle begins to drag; our energies begin to wade, the voice of enthusiasm becomes weaker and weaker. We begin to have self-doubt in our capacity to win. We are left just too tired to finish things off. The cumulative time, effort and energies we have put in are already getting back at us. We start to feel the result of “diminishing returns”

The killer minute

Alec Mackenzie is right on target with this quote—

Got a minute? never means just one minute. Before you answer, always ask, What’s this about?

In your experience. Was it really a minute?

Time Value Per Hour

One of the earliest lessons my mother taught me was the value of time. She kept on pounding the classic saying—

Time is Gold

I only got to realize this when I worked for consulting companies where chargeability rates per hour was a big deal. Counting the number of hours worked and the productivity that goes with it was awakening.

Unaccomplished Tasks

I am the kind of person that cannot sleep well at night with pending tasks not accomplished for the day.

As William James would put it—

Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task.
