Work Life Balance is Overrated

in Uncategorized

I have previously written a post on Work Life Balance and for the past two years I have been a big fan of this concept.
Perspectives change over time, and now I am beginning to feel how overrated Work Life Balance is. How can you beat someone who spends at least 14 hours a day 7 days a week honing his craft?

I remember one of the Jet Li movies wherein he was described as the best in what he does. In the movie, he was described as someone who has no family, friends and his work has his total, undivided dedication and commitment.
I know that is extreme and is no longer healthy in the wholistic development of a person. But, I believe it’s time to think of life work balance as overrated and tilting it a bit into the direction of honing your skills can make a lot of difference in your drive for professional success.

  1. Work/life balance isn’t overrated at all. You just have to decide what’s important to you. For me, work/life balance means that I do not expect to outdo someone working 14 hours a day/7 days a week.

  2. Hi Scott,
You are absolutely correct. Sometimes priorities change at a given time period at least for myself. There are times that it is important for me to work just 8 hours a day and at times, I just feel the need to extend more hours especially when I am faced with tough competition.
